Build your Science Trust Toolkit: Moving from Correction to Connection

Date: Saturday, Oct. 18, 12:30 p.m. - 1:30 p.m.
Location: 4C - 4th Floor

Misinformation about science is prevalent in communities across the United States and globally.

As scientists, we play an important role in addressing misinformation, but we must understand effective communication techniques for this issue. Research shows that simply correcting misinformation is insufficient for changing a person's beliefs. In this interactive workshop, we will work on shifting our mindsets from "I need to correct misinformation" to "I need to build trust in scientists”. At this meeting, we will focus our examples on misinformation about nuclear and particle physics research. Participants will practice reflective listening, one useful skill for building trusting relationships. Participants will leave the workshop having added a new tool to their "science trust toolkit."

This workshop is student-friendly!

This workshop is FREE and we will be offering LUNCH to workshop attendees. As such, spots are limited to 30 people.
